SCB invites volunteers to join “SCB – Let’s Ride to Plant” to add green spaces in OUR Khung Bangkachao project
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Siam Commercial Bank, led by the Senior Executive Vice-President of the CSR function Araya Phuphanich, organized a “SCB – Let’s Ride to Plant” activity inviting volunteers of “SCB Let’s Do Good” to participate in a bicycle ride to plant 500 trees in Khung Bangkachao area of Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan. The area, known as Bangkok’s “green lung”, is an important source of oxygen for the city. SCB volunteers joined forces with about 100 community members from Bang Kobua sub-district of OUR Khung Bangkachao Green Development Task Force to expand green spaces and establish a thriving ecosystem in line with the community’s way of life. . Native plants, such as Bruguiera gymnorhiza (orange mangrove), Intsia bijuga (Bornean teak), Sonneratia ovata (Gedabu), Sonneratia caseolaris (mangrove apple tree), Barringtonia asiatica (sea poison tree), Erythrina fusca (coral tree ) and Ardisia (coralberry) were planted to preserve the ecosystem of the mangrove forest. The activity aimed to raise employees’ awareness of the importance of the environment and to promote their health.
Since 2019, SCB has been supporting and participating in the OUR Khung Bangkachao project alongside the Chaipattana Foundation and 38 governmental and private organizations to continue the royal initiatives of His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and His Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to develop Khung Bangkachao into a green space and enable communities to coexist sustainably through collaboration across all sectors. SCB is a member of the project’s Green Development, Waste Management and Youth, Education and Cultural Development working groups. The “SCB – Let’s Ride to Plant” activity is part of the development of green spaces of the Ratchaphatsadu plots of the Bank-supported OUR Khung Bangkachao project to achieve the objective of conservation of natural resources, expansion green spaces, improving the quality of life of Khung Bangkachao communities for sustainability and providing a source of oxygen to local communities and the city of Bangkok.
