Commercial Bank of Ceylon: ComBank leads nationwide campaign to promote LANKAQR in Gampaha

The final LANKAQR event of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka National Rollout Campaign organized by the Commercial Bank took place at the Gampaha City Council grounds on January 22 with a large attendance of dignitaries, members of partner banks, merchants and other guests.

This is the first LANKAQR event for 2022 and aims to popularize LANKAQR payments to small and medium merchants as a low-cost digital payment method and as a secure and convenient payment solution that can be used via mobile devices. .

Hon. Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth and Sports, Minister of Development Coordination and Monitoring and Minister of State for Digital and Entrepreneurship Development graced the event as guest of honour.

The guest of honor at the Gampaha event was Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister of Tourism.

Mr. Eranga Senanayake, Mayor of Gampaha and Mr. Dharmasri Kumaratunga, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank also honored this event.

Commercial Bank offered customers who shopped at the event and at local retailers and paid for their purchases through the Q+ Payment app, 35% cashback, subject to a maximum daily limit of Rs 750. This offer will run until January 31, the bank says.

Commercial Bank has also deployed a sales team to visit retailers in the Gampaha area to encourage signups and onboard merchants to the LANKAQR platform through the Q+ Merchant app.

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has already carried out a series of activities in Gampaha in support of the Central Bank’s initiative to promote cashless digital payments through the LANKAQR platform, including fully digitizing the payment platforms of the City Council of Ceylon. Gampaha and presenting refund offers to customers.

The event also included the symbolic activation of Gampaha City Council digital payments. Residents served by the Council can now pay fares (Varipanam) and other services online via electronic bills through the ComBank Internet Payment Gateway (IPG) or pay their dues using their credit or debit cards or by using the LANKAQR platform when visiting Council offices. Additionally, Q+ Payment app users can enjoy the convenience and security of paying their bills with the click of a button through their digital wallet.

The digitization of payments is particularly timely and relevant given the risks associated with physical visits to offices to make payments and improves security for Council employees by reducing the number of visitors coming to pay their dues. Among the many payments that can now be made digitally are cremation reservation fees, library fees, hall and grounds reservation fees, and business registration fees.

Q+ Payment app is the fastest growing QR app in the country and was the first QR-based payment app to be launched under LANKAQR. Currently, Q+ Payment app is the only payment app in Sri Lanka compatible with VISAQR, Mastercard QR and UnionPay QR.

The Q+ Payment app is designed as a hassle-free payment alternative for cardholders and vendors. It allows the bearer to pay for his purchases via his mobile by simply scanning the merchant’s QR code. Since its launch in 2019, the app has undergone several feature-enhancing upgrades, including biometric authentication login for consumer and merchant apps, an “in-app bill payments” feature that allows users connected to the Bank’s debit, credit or prepaid cards to pay. bills instantly, the ability to quickly settle unpaid credit cards and reload prepaid cards, and the addition of an “online checkout” feature that allows customers to pay for purchases online by entering their

mobile phone numbers on merchant websites and apps that have “Q+ Payment App” as a payment option, and more recently enabling customer-presented QR and merchant-presented QR modes for cardholders UnionPay.

In October 2021, the app surpassed the milestone of 100,000 registered customers, doubling its customer base in just five months.
