Cities Forum 2023 – Together for green and fair cities – Regional policy

The CITY FORUM is a major biennial event of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, which brings together key urban stakeholders from European, national, regional and local levels.

This is the place and time to discuss the urban dimension of cohesion policy, the urban agenda for the EU, the role of cities in the implementation of the European Green Deal, the EU’s response to the urban dimension of the Territorial Agenda 2030, as well as highlight new initiatives at EU level developed to support cities.

2023 will mark the start of the implementation phase of EU cohesion policy for the period 2021-2027, against the backdrop of new challenges that combine with the green and digital transition and against the crises to which the territories have been faced in recent years. While we are witnessing the resurgence of many sectors after the pandemic, we are nevertheless facing new demographic and economic challenges linked to the war in Ukraine. In these difficult times, support, dialogue and cooperation are more important than ever to leave no one and no place behind.

The 5th edition of the CITIES FORUM will strive to create a space dedicated to sustainable urban development, in order to exchange and inform about current urban issues and available solutions. Essentially, the event will highlight the green transition in cities, while reaffirming the fundamental objective of the EU to social inclusion. The event also aims to affirm the role of small and medium-sized towns, as good as functional territories in order to provide territorial responses to local challenges.

CITIES FORUM 2023 is a unique opportunity to move forward on the recent developments on various EU initiatives and policies offering more coherent support to cities in implementing sustainable urban development – including through funding, capacity building and knowledge building.

Actors implementing and promoting integrated and sustainable urban development, including cities, regions, umbrella organizations and NGOs, will contribute to the success of this edition of the CITIES FORUM by being speakers and facilitating workshops. In addition, high-level political representatives from all levels of government, from across Europe, will be invited to participate.

More information will be provided later this year and we look forward to welcoming you to Turin.
